Installation Guide

 Kawasaki ZX-6R 1998 - 2002

Mototeck Mini-Tail by Dussault

Please read these instructions from beginning to end before you start the installation. Should you have any questions, please contact SportbikeEffects immediately. If you do not feel comfortable doing this job yourself, it is suggested that you have an experienced Motorcycle Technician perform the installation.

1. Remove the 2 seats, the 2 grab bars, the tail section and tail light.

2. CUTTING OF THE UNDERTRAY. IMPORTANT NOTE: The following procedure involves some cutting of plastic. Use Safety Glasses for all cutting and/or grinding procedures! There are two ways to cut the undertray. You can do it while it is still installed in the bike, or remove it and do the cutting on a table. I suggest doing the cutting with the under tray on a table. If you do elect to remove the under tray, you will have to remove the battery and all electrical components from the under tray. If you do decide to leave the under tray in the bike, be very careful and watch for any wires in the area where you have to cut.  You can do the cutting with a Dremel tool, a good utility knife or a small saw. The under tray, after it is cut, looks like the example in the four pictures below. The pictures are of a ZX-9R under tray, but is very similar to the ZX-6R.

The next two pictures show the cuts on the ZX-6R under tray.

2. Once that is done, re-install the under tray. Re-install all electrical components. Connect the tail light and connect the battery.

3. install the stainless license plate bracket on the undertail, mark and drill the spot as shown on the pictures,

4. Re-install the tail section, install the undertail and connect the wires for the rear Turns signals. Next, the LED license plate light needs a 12 volt connection. I suggest it be spliced to the tail light wire.

5. It suggested that you install a heavy duty Turn signal relay as shown below. In most cases, after installing LED's, the signals will flash at a very rapid rate. This relay installed in place of the stock unit will return the Turn signal flashing rate back to normal. We have these units in stock. Our Part Number is 3100610 and is available by clicking here.
