Installation Guide Yamaha
YZF600 1996-2005 |
Please read these instructions from beginning to end before you start the installation. Should you have any questions, please contact SportbikeEffects immediately. If you do not feel comfortable doing this job yourself, it is suggested that you have an experienced Motorcycle Technician perform the installation. 1. If possible, place the bike on a swing arm stand. 2. Remove the front seat. 3. Remove the Grab handles, rear cowling, Foot peg brackets and Tail light bracket including the stock Turn Signals. |
4. UNDERTRAY TRIMMING: IMPORTANT NOTE: The following procedure involves some cutting of plastic. Use Safety Glasses for all cutting and/or grinding procedures! The stock undertray must be trimmed enough to install the Undertail section. For cutting, I recommend a Dremel Tool with a plastic cutting tip. The Dremel tool is an excellent choice, but you can also use a Hack Saw blade, an Exacto Knife, or something similar. Look carefully at the pictures below and use them as a guide as to where you need to cut. |

5. Remove the two Bungee hooks from either side of the sub frame. See the yellow tape in the picture below as to where to cut. |
6. After removing the Bungee hooks, paint the bare metal area left by the cutting process with Rust-oleum to prevent rust. |
7. After the cutting procedures, use a file to smooth the plastic edges left behind on the undertray. |
8. Cut the Tail light bracket as shown by the yellow tape line on the picture below. |
The picture below shows the Tail light bracket after cutting. You will re-install the modified bracket in order to offer support for the Tail section on the four rubber grommets |
9. Reinstall the Tail light bracket in it's original location on the bike. |
10. Install the Tail section on the bike without tightening the screws. |
11. Layout and drill the holes in the Undertail for the License plate bracket if you are going to use the bracket supplied in the Undertail kit. See the two pictures below. |

12. Insert the Undertail in to the Tail section. The two holes in the in the front line up with the two holes on the bike. Remove and re-install the bolts through the Undertail. 13. Connect the Tail and Turn signal lights. Be sure and observe the polarity, as LEDs' must use the correct polarity to operate. Test the Brake light and Turn signals. 14. Re-install the Grab handles and Foot Peg brackets. 15. Tighten and all the nuts and bolts. 16. It suggested that you install a heavy duty Turn signal relay. In most cases, after installing LED's, the signals will flash at a very rapid rate. This relay installed in place of the stock unit will return the Turn signal flashing rate back to normal. We have these units in stock. Our Part Number is 3100610 and is available by clicking here. |
