Installation Guide

 Suzuki SV650 SV1000
Mototeck Undertail by Dussault

Please read these instructions from beginning to end before you start the installation. Should you have any questions, please contact SportbikeEffects before proceeding. If you do not feel comfortable doing this job yourself, it is suggested that you have an experienced Motorcycle Technician perform the installation.

1. If possible, place the bike on a swing arm stand.

2. Remove the front seat.

3. Remove the solo seat section or rear seat.

4. Remove the plastic lock rivets under the tail section. Using a 10mm wrench, remove the bolts under the tail section as well.

5. Disconnect the tail light, signal light, license plate wires and the key lock cable and carefully remove the tail section.

The picture above shows the tail section removed.

6. Remove the 4, 10mm bolts that hold the mud guard in place and remove it..

7. FENDER TRIMMING: IMPORTANT NOTE: The following procedure involves some cutting of plastic. Use Safety Glasses for all cutting and/or grinding procedures! The stock fender is used to retain the trunk area. You must also keep the holder clips for the support  bar. The stock fender must be trimmed enough to install the Undertail section. For cutting, I recommend a Dremel Tool with a plastic cutting tip. The Dremel tool  is an excellent choice, but you can also use a Hack Saw blade, an Exacto Knife, or something similar. Basically, you have to cut the fender at least as high as the finished edge and also leave room for the signals. It's not critical to cut perfectly since the new Undertail covers all of the cut edges. Look carefully at the pictures below and use them as a guide as to where you need to cut. This procedure should take about 5 minutes.

Bending the plastic sides help the knife, being used in this example, cut the plastic. Use caution when using any sharp blade and always cut away from you. For ease of cutting, use some tape to layout the cut before you begin.

Continue the cut, using the tape edges as a guide.

These are the pieces that have been cut off.

This picture above shows the edge after the pieces have  been cut off.

8. Hold the stock undertray up against the frame, and using the existing stock fender mounting holes as a guide, drill two 3/16" holes in the undertray, one on either side. See the pictures above and below.

9. Use the bolts that held the mud guard in place to attach the stock undertray to the frame. Tighten with a 10mm wrench.

This shows the stock undertray now mounted to the bottom of the rear subframe.

10. If you plan to use the license plate bracket supplied in the kit, now would be a good time to drill the three mounting holes, the location of which, has been marked on the Mototeck Undertail. Attach the bracket using the  fasteners supplied, or, if you prefer, you may use nuts and bolts. Depending where you are located, you may have to drill some holes in your License plate to line up with the holes in the License Plate Bracket.

11. Carefully re-install the tail section on the bike, but do not install any of the bolts or rivets at this time.

12. Slide the Undertail up into the tail section and position it to line up the four holes so you can attach it using the six plastic fasteners supplied with the Mototeck kit.

13. Install the four bolts that hold down the tail section.

14. Connect the signal wires. The LED turn signal wires are black and red and are connected to the stock turn signal wires which are black and white. If the LED signal lights do not illuminate, you most likely will have to reverse your wire connections on the effected lights. IMPORTANT NOTE: The wires for the LED Turn Signals have inline resistors. If you remove the resistors by shortening the wires, the LED's will fail upon applying electrical power. Do NOT remove these resistors. There are inline resistors for the License plate light as well. Next, connect the stock tail light wires and the license plate light wires. Check that the signal, tail and brake lights operate satisfactorily.

15. It suggested that you install a heavy duty Turn signal relay. In most cases, after installing LED's, the signals will flash at a very rapid rate. This relay installed in place of the stock unit will return the Turn signal flashing rate back to normal. We have these units in stock. Our Part Number is 3100610 and is available by clicking here.

16. Do your best to hide the wires in the empty rear and side parts of the tail section. Use tape or Zip Ties to secure the wires to prevent something from catching on them.
